Seminyak Beach is a world apart from its neighbouring beach resort areas – the likes of Kuta and Legian to its south – chiefly in the type of crowd it attracts. Bali first emerged as a tourist destination for vagabond surfers, attracted to these south-western shores by its dramatic waves, with Seminyak Beach itself offering its splendid coast of gold to dark sand and gorgeous sunsets.
Peti Tenget Temple, or ‘Pura Petitenget’ in the local tongue, is Seminyak’s sole and central cultural landmark. A must-see, especially if you’re staying in the area, the centuries-old temple comes to life during its festive 210-day anniversaries. The name of the street that runs parallel to the beach is actually taken from the temple. Also, the namesake Petitenget Beach is only a few steps away from the temple where visitors and locals enjoy the best spots to share in the gorgeous sunset moments
Double Six Beach, also referred to as ‘Blue Ocean Beach’, is a half-kilometre stretch of golden-white sand that is part of the whole length of Seminyak Beach
Dream Museum Zone (DMZ) Bali 3D, is a fun and interactive art gallery featuring a vast collection of three-dimensional, life-size murals for visitors to pose and play with. The gallery features a rich array of masterfully painted artworks that each serves as interactive backdrops for illusory three-dimensional photography.
Echo Beach, is one of Bali’s most popular surf spots. The nickname overshadows its local name ‘Pantai Batu Mejan’, after a significant Balinese Hindu sea temple on site. Sharing the serene rice field-landscaped region of Canggu with other wave-riding haunts such as Berawa, Seseh and Pererenan, Echo Beach has become most popular due to its advanced reef breaks, 180-degree seascape and sunsets, and array of delicious seafood cafes set on a high vantage point from where to enjoy it all.
La Laguna Bali, around 20 minutes' drive from Seminyak central, is a tapas bar and restaurant on the secluded, northernmost end of Seminyak Beach, which draws a steady flow of patrons, particularly at sunset time, to its heavily ornamented gardens and a 30m log bridge over a lagoon that leads to the dark sands bordering Berawa and Batubelig. The spot is among the few in Bali that presents a gypsy and boho-chic vibe, with floral spaces and semi-cobbled paths lined with quirky props and bohemian décor in contrasting shades and motifs. These gardens, and the wooden bridge over a small stream to the beach, are great for memorable sunset shots.
Potato Head Beach Club, is one of the premium venues in Seminyak and has a large infinity pool and beach front covered in bean bags and sun loungers.
It is the perfect place to come if you fancy a lazy day in Seminyak and you can also rent one of the cabanas here and stay all day sipping on cocktails and enjoying some of the poolside cuisine.
If you want a cabana you will have to get here early as many of them are snapped up by 10 am, and some of the signature nibbles here include tapas and huge cheese and meat platters.
There are also three restaurants here if you want some formal dining in the form of the Potato Head Bistro, Lilin which serves Asian fusion food, and Tapping Shoes which is a French take on upscale dining.
